The Virtual Collaborative Learning (VCL) initiatives spearheaded by seven Western Balkan universities have successfully united 156 students and a dedicated team of 17 professors and e-tutors across the region. Through 12 diverse modules, students demonstrated their creativity and skills in a variety of innovative projects, underscoring the power of teamwork and cross-border education.
During a recent workshop session, the impact of these VCL initiatives was highlighted as each university presented their accomplishments:
- Epoka University launched two VCL projects during the spring semester of 2023-2024. Under the leadership of Prof. Erinda Imeraj Ymeraj, 16 students worked on interdisciplinary projects tackling global issues like cryptocurrency and Brexit. Additionally, the SmartCity VCL Initiative, led by Dr. Esmir Demaj, brought together master’s students to develop innovative solutions for transforming Tirana into a smart city.
- International Burch University, guided by Prof. Malcolm Duerod, implemented a VCL course in Mobile and Wireless Networking. Students focused on green IoT networks, emphasizing practical applications and interdisciplinary learning.
- European University of Tirana empowered 30 master’s students through VCL courses in Web Development, SQL Server, and Advanced Software Development, fostering a collaborative and virtual learning environment.
- University of East Sarajevo showcased interdisciplinary collaboration by merging economics and engineering perspectives to solve complex challenges, enhancing students’ problem-solving skills.
- Kolegji Biznesi College integrated real-world applications through partnerships with industry leaders like Baki Automobile Volkswagen and UKAB. Students gained valuable experience in programming and decision-making through hands-on projects.
- University of Montenegro emphasized student involvement in their VCL initiatives, focusing on Differential Equations and Resource Management, fostering active and interdisciplinary learning.
- UBT – University for Business and Technology – Kosovo engaged students in Digital Marketing Support for Startups, blending theoretical learning with practical project development, equipping students with industry-relevant skills.
These VCL initiatives not only illustrate the innovative spirit of the Western Balkan universities but also reflect a strong commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and preparing students for the future of education and industry.
